Mandatory Documents and Important Information

The following documents are required to collect the vehicle:

• A printed version of your Rental Voucher.

• Passport or Identification card.

• A valid credit card in the name of the main driver.

• A valid (with no endorsements) driving licence. International driving licence is required for customers whose licence is not written in English or does not have a photo.

Age Restriction and Driving Licence: Drivers must be 25 years and have held a valid driving licence for a minimum of 12 months. The maximum renting age at this location is 99 years.

Young Driver Fees: Young drivers surcharge has been added to the price quoted online and is payable at the counter. If you are between 21 and 24 years old you must pay a young driver surcharge of 27.5 AUD (excludes tax) per day. Only applicable to certain car groups.

Excess and Liability

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW): In the event of a collision or damage to your rental car, the Collision Damage Waiver protection will limit the driver’s liability. This means that the driver will generally only be responsible for a portion of the cost of repair. This portion is known as the excess. All drivers that are registered to drive the rental car are covered by this protection. If the car is damaged, you are only required to pay the excess amount.

Theft Waiver (TW): With Theft Waiver, the driver’s costs incurred by the theft of the rental car, or damage resulting from attempted theft of the rental car, is limited to the excess amount. The excess is the first portion of the cost of repair. This is subject to the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. Personal effects are not covered by Theft Waiver but they may be covered by the driver’s own travel or household insurance policies.

There is an excess of 4400 AUD for all car groups except 4WD SUV which has an excess of 5500 AUD. Depending on the rental pick-up location, a premium location surcharge may apply.

The above excess amount should be available on your credit card for the duration of the rental.

If you have purchased insurance from a third party an excess will still be required by Thrifty.

Thrifty's Optional Insurance (excludes tax):

Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW): In the event of damage to the rental car, SCDW reduces the driver’s liability and, in so doing, limits their obligation to cover the cost of repairing or replacing the car. Generally speaking, the driver is responsible for the first portion of the costs, this is known as the excess. This excess is often set at zero, which means the driver is not liable. This is subject to the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. This agreement is made directly with the supplier and paid at the rental desk.

Premium Protection: cost 27 AUD per day and will reduce the excess amount to 500 AUD for all car groups except 4WD SUV. 4WD can be reduced to 1100 AUD at a cost of 27 AUD per day.

Ultimate Protection (SCDW): can be purchased at the rental desk for 33 AUD per day and will reduce the excess amount to zero.

Fuel

Your vehicle will be supplied with a full tank of fuel. To avoid incurring fuel charges you will need to return it full. You may be required to leave a fuel deposit reserved on your credit card that will be released when you return the car full. Missing fuel will be charged on your return. The price per litre charged by the rental agent may be significantly higher than the price at the local service station. Fuel charges are payable at the rental desk unless otherwise stated in the top section of rate details.

Payment

Thrifty accepts credit cards to pay for costs, excess and deposits at the counter. The main driver of the car rental contract must be the cardholder of one of the following valid credit cards: MasterCard, Diners Club, American Express or VISA.

Thrifty does not accept payment by Cash, Postepay, Visa Electron, any Debit Card (Including MasterCard or Visa), and Prepaid Credit/Debit Card.

Thrifty will require a pre-authorisation of 385 AUD for passenger vehicles and up to 1000 AUD for 4WD upon collection of the vehicle.

In the event that you fail to present a valid credit card or lack of sufficient funds available on the credit card, car rental agent may refuse to release the vehicle. In these instances, no funds paid will be reimbursed.

Extras and Additional Charges

ADDITIONAL DRIVERS: 6.83 AUD per day with a maximum charge of 47.81 AUD per rental.

BABY SEAT/CHILD/BOOSTER SEAT: 13.69 AUD per day with a maximum charge of 95.83 AUD per rental.

GPS: 13.69 AUD per day with a maximum charge of 95.83 AUD per rental.

Please note: The price of optional extras (including equipment, fuel and insurance) are subject to change without notice and excludes taxes. Optional extras (equipment) are subject to availability and payable at the counter.

Cross Border and Driving Territory

Thrifty vehicles must only be use on a road which is properly formed and constructed as a sealed, metalled or gravel road.

Vehicles rented in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Australian Capital Territory may not be driven to Western Australia, Northern Territory, Tasmania, Kangaroo Island, the outback, or desert areas.

Other Information

• Smoking is not permitted in rental vehicle. If you smoke in your rental vehicle you will be charged for additional cleaning costs.

• Traffic fines, sanctions and judicial costs related to traffic violations and tolls are not included in the rental cost.

• All costs derived from the use of the incorrect and/or lack of petrol are not included.

• The car rental provider is not to be held liable for items stolen, forgotten or lost inside the vehicle. It is recommended that the customers have these items covered through personal travel insurance.

• The loss of the vehicle documents is not covered.

• Damages or costs deriving from customers loading the car with more than the stated capacity or taking vehicles “off-road” (unpaved roads) will be the customer’s responsibility.

• No insurance will cover customers driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and/or found using their cellular phone at the time of an accident.

• The vehicles displayed and models listed are the most common vehicles used by our car rental partners. We cannot guarantee the make/model or traction of the rental vehicle will be the same as the vehicle displayed on our website.

• No refunds will be given if you fail to collect the vehicle at your specified time or if you fail to meet the driving licence, passport, credit card or other documentation requirements outlined in this voucher. Neither do CarTrawler provide refunds for vehicles returned early.

• Voucher: A printed version of your rental voucher must be produced upon arrival at the rental desk. Failure to present the voucher means the car rental agent may charge you at the local rates. Please note: We are not responsible for overcharges on rentals where the voucher was not presented to the local agent on collection of the vehicle. If you do not present the required documents, the documentation is not valid or you do not have enough funds on your credit card, the car rental agent may refuse to release the vehicle and no funds will be reimbursed.
